Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance Program

Environmental firm seeking candidate to fill position as a Plant Propagation Manager for the Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) program at Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM).  LRAM repairs, maintains and enhances Army training lands to support realistic maneuver training conditions and sustainable use of the land for the units using the installation.  The JBLM LRAM component operates a greenhouse facility to grow native plants from seeds collected from JBLM’s training lands and established seed beds.   The greenhouse facility is managed by a Plant Propagation Manger who works in cooperation with the LRAM Coordinator to produce plant materials for revegetation projects.

Job Description

Plans, organizes and implements greenhouse operations to include plant propagation and greenhouse maintenance.  Harvests seeds of specific native plant species for propagation, maintains beds and keeps detailed records of seed collection sites on JBLM.  Applicant will be responsible for facilitating the sorting, processing, storage and tracking of collected seeds. Works with other program personnel in rehabilitating disturbed military training areas by planting native plants into prairie sites.  Provides technical advice on seed collection and plant propagation methods.

Requirements

A degree in horticulture and/or plant science or a closely related field is desirable. Must have some familiarity with the native flora and ecology of South Puget Sound prairies.  Knowledge of native plant propagation a must. Preferred applicants will have good communication and organization skills, familiarity with basic computer operations, the desire to work in greenhouse and field conditions, and the ability to create and deliver PowerPoint presentations.

This is a contract position. Duties require kneeling and standing for long hours, field work in varying weather conditions, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.  Please send resume with salary history to: cshifflett@eeimail.com.
