The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is dedicated to protecting native fish and wildlife, and providing sustainable fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities for millions of residents and visitors. Working throughout the state, WDFW officers, land stewards, lab technicians, customer service representatives and others —manage hundreds of fish and wildlife species, maintain nearly a million acres of public wildlife lands, provide opportunities for recreational and commercial fishing, wildlife viewing and hunting, protect and restore habitat and enforce laws that protect fish and wildlife resources. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a robust volunteer program to capitalize on the thousands of volunteer hours provided by individuals and groups dedicated to fish and wildlife resources across the state! This position is located in the Human Resource Office within the Director’s Office stationed at the Natural Resource Building in Olympia, WA. Travel up to 20% is required to manage the program and develop strategic relationships.
DUTIES:
You will be responsible for:
 Planning , developing, establishing, and managing a statewide volunteer program, including recruitment, training, support, and recognition of individual and group volunteers.
 Managing the development and modification of policies, procedures, and manuals.
 Working closely with program and regional staff to identify needs, ensure consistency across the agency, and provide technical volunteer management consultation.
 Representing the agency with external volunteer groups, giving presentations, and building strong relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor’s degree in psychology, business administration, human resource management, organization development, volunteer management, behavioral science or closely related field and four years of professional experience in volunteer management, community outreach, nonprofit leadership, or closely related field
OR A Master’s degree with major study in psychology, business administration, human resource management, organization development, volunteer management, behavioral science or closely related field and two years of the above experience.
OR Additional experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
 Certification in Volunteer Administration by the Association for Volunteer Administration or other professional volunteer management organization is highly desirable
 Demonstrated excellence in public speaking and presentations to large audiences.
 Demonstrated experience with social networking in an organizational setting.
 Knowledge of curriculum design and development and ability to deliver effective training programs.
 Knowledge of OSHA, WISHA, and other laws and their application to volunteers.
 Demonstrated experience developing informational, marketing documents for external distribution.
 Demonstrated success in building, managing, and growing meaningful relationships with a diverse range of constituents.
 Effective communication skills and the ability and enthusiasm for connecting with people from a variety of different backgrounds.
 A high level of integrity, professionalism, and a creative, responsive style with strong attention to detail and follow through.
 Ability to work independently and as a team player.
 Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
 Be organized, flexible and self directed.
 Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to create successful strategies and identify solutions independently.
