Residents learn to prevent waste at home and work and volunteer in their community.

People living and working in Thurston County are wondering how they can reduce their garbage bill, recycle more, and prevent food waste from going in the trash. Thurston County is offering an opportunity to learn more about these topics and become certified as a Master Recycler Composter.

Program Details

What: Master Recycler Composter volunteer training, five evenings and two weekends of presentations and workshops. There is a $75 materials fee. (http://county.wsu.edu/thurston/gardening/mc/Pages/default.aspx)

Why: To help homes, businesses, churches, and other groups recycle, compost, and prevent waste. Preventing waste is a key to conserve natural resources and save money.

 

When: 6 pm- 8:30 pm, Sep 6, 20, Oct 4, 11, and 18. And 9 am- 12 pm on September 22 and October 6.

Where: Classes will be held at the new Thurston County Public Works complex, 9605 Tilley Rd SW, Olympia WA.

 

In this training, staff from Thurston County Solid Waste will share information on how to:

  • Recycle at home and work.
  • Start and maintain home compost.
  • Prevent waste at work and school.
  • Support statewide industry take back efforts like E-cycle Washington.
  • Understand recycling markets and their effect on collection.
  • Educate your community about reduce, reuse, and recycle.
  • Get involved with County waste prevention programs.
