In both the forum and assignment locations, Moodle allows users to upload files to specific locations and subscribe to postings. Be it peer editing, online assignment submission, or any other document submitting requirement, Moodle features easy to use options that make uploading files a breeze.
Start by finding the forum posting that you want to contribute to on your Moodle home page. To make sure it is a forum and not an assignment, look for a speech bubble icon next to the title. Clicking the forum’s hyperlink will take you to a page dedicated to that specific topic. Below a forum’s contents, there will be a button labeled “Add a new discussion topic, which will take you to a page with fields or options for “Subject,” “Message,” “Subscription,” and “Attachments.” Here you can insert a title for your forum topic, add a body message, choose whether or not you want to receive emails informing you of activity in this forum, and attach relevant documents.
To upload a file, click the button on the bottom of the page to the right of “Attachment” labeled “Add…” This will bring up a window with uploading options. To choose a file from your computer, select “Upload a File” from the menu on the left. This will bring up a browsing window where you can search for the document you wish to upload. To rename the file you wish to upload, type the new file name into the field called “Save as”. This will rename the file being posted. The subscription option allows you to choose whether or not you receive email notifications regarding your discussion. Opting to subscribe means that you will be informed whenever anyone adds to that page’s forum discussion.
Submitting assignments is virtually the same as contributing to forums. Start by finding the assignment posting on your Moodle home page. To make sure it is an assignment and not a forum, look for the clipboard icon next to the topic posting. Clicking the “Upload files” button will bring you to a page with options to “Add…” and or “Create folder.” To upload a file, select the option labeled “Add…” This will bring up a window with uploading options. To choose a file from your computer, select “Upload a File” from the menu on the left. This will bring up a browsing window. From the browsing window, search the computer files for the document you wish to upload. You may rename the file after you have selected it by typing the new file name into the “Save as” field. Once you have selected your document and renamed it, click the “Save changes” button at the bottom of the page. This will save your document as a Submission Draft. At this stage, the assignment is on Moodle, but has not been submitted to your professor. To officially turn your document in, click the “Submit for marking” button at the bottom of the page. This will submit the file only to your professor or teacher; it is not a public or open file. They will be notified of your submission.
