Basket Garden

About the Garden:

This garden includes plants used traditionally to make baskets by First Peoples from the Pacific Northwest as well as from other cultural traditions including western red cedar (Thuja plicata), red osier dogwood (Cornus stolonifera), sedge (Carex spp.), beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax), and willow (Salix spp.). Due to reduced land bases and access to gathering places, many basket makers find it difficult to gather the materials they need to keep traditional arts alive. This garden will eventually produce needed materials but also elevate awareness of the challenges faced by these artists.

How to Get to the Garden:

The Basket Garden is located along the southern side of the Seminar II building.
