Artistic Wall Paint

Even if you are close by you may not notice these discreet but intricate paintings along each pillar between the windows that decorate the Olympia Glass Co. I wonder why these beautiful sketches of gods and goddesses ended up on the walls of a glass company! Since these artistic creations are a similar color to the paint on the wall behind it, it is easier to see them up close, as they blend in to the wall and stand out less to a passerby across the street. The cool shade provides a break from a hot day. This part of the block is more heavily shaded in the afternoon. The passerby’s gave us no mind, there was plenty of room. We comfortably rolled around the block on skateboards. The pavement is tough alright but the foundations of these buildings are old and cracking, certainly too weak to support the building if submerged.

These pictures remind me of the Greek and Roman gods. Each entity has certain characteristics which bring it power. In some ways we can assert power in our own lives, though not in a dominant manner. Maybe these sketches are clues to who owned the building or the building’s history before the Olympia Glass Co. Either way they are a beautiful and yet surprising remnants of some one’s personal impact on the outside look of the building.

It’s interesting to think about what these paintings would look like underwater, and what people in the future will think when they find them
