Creature

This picture was taken April 10th, between eight and nine o’clock at night. It is one of my favorites because it is impossible to tell what it is (which means it can be anything).

I noticed this creature swimming in bud inlet as I was walking up the fifth avenue bridge, finished with my observations. At first I thought it was just another duck so I ignored it, then I noticed it was a bit bigger. I could not figure out what it was at first, its head kept bobbing in and out of the water; it made me excited.

In actuality, it was a seal I saw that night, it took me longer than I want to admit to figure it out. But I was still excited because I don’t believe I have ever seen a seal in that particular area, and it wasn’t a duck. I kept losing track of the seal, because it was pretty dark. But I could swear it was looking at me. I think it deliberately kept swimming under water to hide from me, but I probably put that idea into my own head.

This is probably the best picture I have of the seal, everything else turned out too dark; but I think that is for the best, because this one is my favorite.
