ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Unable to get their shots to fall, the Evergreen Geoducks fell to the Central Washington Wildcats, 67-47, in an exhibition women’s basketball contest on Saturday night at Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg, Wash.
The Wildcats and the Geoducks battled early but CWU went on a 12-0 run in the closing minutes of the first half to blow a two-point lead into a 14-point lead as Central took a 38-22 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Wildcats continued to pull away as the Geoducks struggled to put points on the board. The Geoducks eventually slowed down CWU late but the differential was too much to overcome as Evergreen took the exhibition loss, 67-47.
Evergreen was led by 11 points from senior Sammi Clark (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS/Edmonds CC). Sadee Jones (Belfair, Wash./North Mason HS) led the way on the defensive end, bringing down 11 rebounds.
Central Washington was led by 15 points from Courtney Johnson. Jessica VanDyke added 11 points in the win. The Wildcats shot 50.9% from the field, compared with just 25.4% for the Geoducks.
The Geoducks return to Cascade Conference play on Friday night when they travel to Corban. Tip with the Warriors is set for 5:30 p.m. at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem, Ore.
