A Brief History

By looking over the work accomplished in communications methods during the last century, we learn how tactics of psychology were used to drive profits and to create the illusion of prosperity. Though I consider this to be a gross misuse of an emerging healing art, the methods used became a part of beneficial communication.

The reason for this piece of the project is to reveal the framework of the principles of marketing at the point in history when psychology was used to trigger unconscious desires and inspire certain consumer behaviors. This is shown so that we first understand the efficacy of these methods, and secondly so that we understand what manipulative practices are used in marketing, in order to avoid repeating the negative aspect of it.

The function of effective communication remains the same, to establish an emotional connection in order to hold the attention of your audience long enough to communicate your idea. It is assumed – on my part – that as students educated to develop interdisciplinary skills, you will have goals that aim to benefit society in some way, as well as your own futures.
