South Park’s Hero’s Path

Moving from history to the present, we’re going to depart from advertising to explore a strong focus for public attention, stories. Unlike the kind of story you passively read however, what you’re about to see is a dynamic comparison of a well known storyline to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Path (or Hero’s Journey).

I hope you’re familiar with South Park.

Spoiler alert! In this piece you’re going to see the SouthPark Super-Hero Arc explained using Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s path. In order to do that I’m going to share with you some long-running plot elements that apply to the bigger picture of the South Park storyline.

I’ve chosen this example because it is current. These highly relatable contemporary characters chose to be hero’s by their own definition and the outlandish adventures that ensue result in relation to their chosen and destined directions. Though, like most South Park stories the tale gets extreme–real life also presents the opportunity to live our authentic adventure. The universe is interactive, once you choose to step outside of the pre-make lifestyle options available to you and take part in life on your own terms, you will likely have experiences no less exciting than the ones the boys in South Park have–but they are unique to you, though connected to the living world and universe of which you are a connected part.
