Do you know anyone who is highly qualified to be the Mayacamas Mountains Sanctuary Naturalist? If so, please see the attached job description: Central Mayacamas Preserve Naturalist JD 20121004

We're looking for someone to be the public face of Audubon Canyon Ranch on our Mayacamas Mountains Sanctuary (MMS). This 1,300 acre preserve is along Pine Flat Road in northeastern Sonoma County. The naturalist will run all of our public programming on the sanctuary which includes scheduling public walks, an orientation program and volunteer stewardship projects. In addition, the naturalist will assist with land management and preserve management duties. See the attached job description for more details.

The ideal candidate has a personal style that engages volunteers, has creative ideas about how to manage our access program, and is comfortable interacting with the wide range of personalities found up here. In addition, the person should have experience working safely outdoors in natural areas and be able to navigate and hike off trail. The job will also entail on-the-ground work in natural resources management, so the ideal candidate would have experience and interest in that area as well.

And of course with our small staff up here, we all have to pitch in for all sorts of tasks, so the job description is not exhaustive. This is a new job, which means there is a lot of room for creativity and input from the person who we hire to help us figure out the best approach for meeting our objectives on this preserve, and even to help us refine those objectives. The naturalist will need to be able to work independently, so ability to exercise sound judgment and problem solving skills are important. As they'll be our eyes and ears on the ground, the naturalist needs to bring interesting or concerning observations along with creative ideas to the attention of the appropriate staff.

Weekend work is a regular part of this job (once or twice per month on average). The position will begin at 75% time, but there may be the potential to expand to full time in the coming year. Starting wages are expected to be approximately $20/hr, and ACR offers an excellent benefits package of health and dental insurance, vacation and holiday pay, retirement plan etc.

Please send applications (cover letter& resume) by e-mail to Sherry@egret.org by October 22nd.
