Title Pierce County Community Organizer
Reports to Managing Director

 

 

SustainableWorks(SW) is seeking a candidate with a strong background in designing and implementing successful community outreach and organizing campaigns to service the Greater Tacoma Area of Pierce County. The ideal candidate will have highly developed leadership skills, demonstrated ability to engage individuals to take action for the common good, and possess a strong commitment to mitigating climate change, and building Washington’s green economy.

 

SustainableWorks is a community energy efficiency program seeking to build local sustainable economies by making energy efficiency and local living wage jobs achievable by all populations.

 

Job Summary

 

Create and implement a community engagement plan that successfully involves members of Pierce County to take individual action to build local sustainable communities through engagement with SustainableWorks. Work with a diverse group of stakeholders including local governments, membership institutions, utilities, and community groups to create measurable results in accordance with board goals.  Work as part of a statewide outreach team establishing and implementing SustainableWorks outreach model best practices according to on-the-ground contingencies across the greater Tacoma area of Pierce County.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Design and implement community outreach/ organizing campaigns based on SustainableWorks model
  • Create and maintain a SustainableWorks presence in Pierce County
  • Present the SW story and value proposition to individuals and groups in writing and in person
  • Deliver measurable results in accordance with board and senior management goals
  • Develop relationships with key community leaders and volunteers
  • Train and mentor volunteers in developing networks and presenting the SW story and value proposition
  • Track and assess the success of outreach methods and make course corrections as needed
  • Ability to travel throughout the Puget Sound region
  • Collaborate with outreach counterparts and operations staff to maximize results
  • Ability to utilize customized SalesForce database for CRM and progress tracking
  • Support staff vision for an adaptive organizational culture
  • Additional Duties as assigned or required

 

 

Job Requirements

Required:

Bachelors Degree or Commensurate Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience working on outreach/organizing or community engagement campaigns

Minimum of 2 years in an outreach/organizing leadership position

Outstanding communication skills

Strong Computer skills including Microsoft Office, and relational database

 

Preferred:

Masters Degree in Communications, Public Administration, Political Science or related field

7-10 years experience working on professional organizing campaigns

5 years in an organizing leadership position

Experience with SalesForce CRM, Adobe, WordPress

 

 

Salary

Salary range $40-50k to start.  Pay dependent upon skills and experience.
