Green Marine is an environmental certification program for the North American maritime industry. It is a voluntary, transparent and inclusive initiative that addresses a number of key environmental issues. Participants include shipowners, port authorities, cargo terminals and shipyards. To receive their certification, participants must benchmark their environmental performance on a yearly basis through the program’s self -evaluation guides, have their results verified by an accredited external verifier and agree to publication of their individual results. Green Marine’s Secretariat is located in Quebec City, Canada. The West Coast Program Manager position will be based in the Seattle area and aims to establish a permanent representation on the West Coast and in the United States. The successful candidate will be hired on a one-year contract with the expectation of extending their employment after the first year. The West Coast Program Manager will report directly to the Executive Director based in Quebec City.

Tasks
– Coordinate West Coast advisory committee meetings and other working groups
– Support West Coast participants in implementing the Green Marine program (program requirements, self-evaluation, verification)
– Develop/review the Green Marine program requirements
– Write documents to explain and promote Green Marine (website, magazines, promotional material, annual reports, etc.)
– Assist in recruiting additional members for the program
– Assist in establishing partnerships between Green Marine and various stakeholders

Knowledge, skills and abilities
– Minimum 5 years experience in project management and/or industry sustainability programs or other related field
– Academic and/or career background in environmental science, political science, economics or other relevant discipline
– Excellent communication and writing skills in English
– Good interpersonal skills
– Ability to act independently with tact and diplomacy, rapidly analyze and solve problems, and handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with attention to detail.
– Knowledge of maritime transportation industry

None mandatory but suitable qualifications:
– Background in GHG and other air emissions
– Communication skills in French would be an asset

Location: Seattle area
Work environment: Mostly office work, with occasional on-site visits and stakeholders meetings. Possibility to work from home.
Compensation range: $50,000 to $70,000 (Compensation commensurate with knowledge, skill, and experience of the successful candidate.)
Required travel: valid passport required for regular travel between U.S. and Canadian West Coast, occasional to other parts of Canada and the United States.

Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (35 hours per week) however this position will entail the need for additional hours of work from time to time as well as travel time outside of normal working hours to meet the objectives of the position.
