Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA) Field Crew Position
Status: Seasonal – Full Time/Hourly (8 weeks June-August)
Job Responsibilities: Candidates will be expected to perform skilled field activities in support of the US Army’s Range and Training Lands Assessment (RTLA) Program at the Yakima Training Center, WA. Candidates must be able to accurately collect and record scientific data utilizing GPS technology for collection and site navigation, possess strong map reading skills, and have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Candidates should possess a strong base knowledge in the identification of plant species, especially in the shrub-steppe communities including grasses, shrubs, and invasive species. Experience operating and maintaining 4×4 trucks is necessary and a mechanical aptitude is required.
Qualifications: This position requires work to be performed in remote outdoor conditions of varied terrain and adverse weather conditions. Ability to transport heavy loads (up to 50lbs) is necessary. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, follow safety rules, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
