About SideWalk
SideWalk is a local organization on a mission to end homelessness in Thurston County, WA. We combine volunteerism and intensive community engagement with data-driven, evidence based methods to accomplish our mission. In less than three years, SideWalk’s team has helped to move over 500 people off the street and into permanent homes.

Position Summary This position reports to the Development Director and is responsible for bringing new supporters into the organization in a variety of capacities. The Community Outreach Coordinator ensures that SideWalk has a steady influx of new, dedicated volunteers, house party hosts, donors, and board & committee members. Volunteers are at the center of SideWalk’s success and culture, therefore, at least 60% of the COC’s time will be spent on volunteer recruitment and cultivation. Applicants for the position should feel comfortable with talking to large numbers of people, data & list management, event coordination, and performance tracking.
Qualified applicants will have experience in volunteer programs and/or grassroots organizing.
• This is a 30/hr/week salaried position with a starting salary of $30,000 per year.
• Flexible weekday schedule plus evening and weekend hours as needed.
• Pro-rated vacation and sick time.
• $333 per month in a HSA healthcare account.
Responsibilities
Supporter Recruitment
• Contacting large numbers of potential supporters (volunteers, house party hosts, donors, and board & committee members)
• Public speaking, tabling, canvassing, and phone banking
• Tracking prospects and their interests
• Following up with prospects and scheduling prospects for engagement

• Keeping recruitment lists/database organized and updated
• Maintenance of outreach materials and information
• Works with Operations Director during recruitment and training of volunteers for on-site positions.
• Other duties as assigned Fund Development Support
• Scheduling of outreach events, house parties, and small fundraisers and recruitment of volunteers for staffing events as needed
• Public speaking at both small and large events as well as support and training of staff and volunteers who will be speaking (known as “Ambassadors”)
• Support with planning and staffing SideWalk’s major annual events.
• Support with event promotions.
Qualifications & Skills
• Personal passion for ending homelessness. You must believe that accomplishment of our mission is possible and be ready to work in a solutions focused environment.
• Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. We aim to bring the entire community together around SideWalk’s mission – you must be effective at bridging powerful differences of perspective and background.
• Experience in “ground game” organizing activities – get-out-the-vote campaigns, canvassing, phone banking, public speaking, etc. These skills play a strong role in volunteer recruitment.
• Experience in public communications, marketing, and messaging.
• Ability to work under pressure – and have fun doing so.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and public speaking skills.
• Experience working with volunteer programs.
• Strong information management skills.
• Willingness to contact high numbers of prospects.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Willingness to learn our systems and processes. SideWalk operates with “lean” systems and strategies.
