The minimum requirements for AmeriCorps is:

  • Between 18-25years old.
  • A U.S. citizen.
  • Meet criminal background check requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED.

 

 

Environmental Education: coordinate volunteers; deliver hands-on environmental education/outreach to youth and adults in the class and field on the topics of native plants, salmon habitat, water quality, watershed health, forestry, Best Management Practices and others.

 

WSC AmeriCorps member will review the framework of existing Mason Conservation District’s environmental education programs, develop recommendations for improvement, and update outreach activities. In addition, the AmeriCorps member will help to develop new outreach initiatives to address increasing educational needs in the areas of stormwater management and nearshore stewardship.

 

The AmeriCorps Environmental Education Coordinator will:

  • Assist with coordinating Kids With Conservation Knowledge (KWICK) Youth Education Program
  • Pollinator Habitat Enhancement Program Development
  • Assist with Shore Friendly Program
  • Coordinate the Manure Exchange Program (MCDMEP)
  • Coordinate Blueberry Maintenance and Propagation Workshop
  • Coordinate LID Demonstration Sites
  • Coordinate Native Plant Sale Workshops and volunteer activities
  • Monitor and evaluate MCD implemented restoration projects
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with landowners and community organizations
  • Volunteer Outreach, Recruitment, and Recognition

 

Members will receive the following for their service:

  1. Living stipend of $1,195 per month provided by WSC (before taxes)
  2. Training and experience
  3. Subsidized childcare provided by GAP Solutions Inc. (if qualified)
  4. Health Insurance (member only and only if no other health insurance coverage)
  5. Student loan forbearance (on qualifying loans)
  6. $2,865 Education Award provided by National Service Trust (upon successful completion of service term commitment and 900 hours of service)
