Data Collectors for National Study of Neighborhood Parks

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The City Parks Alliance (CPA) in conjunction with the RAND Corporation is conducting a four-year study to determine the correlation between urban parks management and policies, and physical activity. This is the first national observational, longitudinal study of neighborhood parks to observe park use in order to shape public policy on health promotion.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
CPA seeks temporary, part-time paid data collectors to observe and record physical activity data in neighborhood parks within multiple cities (please see below for complete list of cities). Data collectors must be available in the morning, afternoon, and early evening during Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to conduct observations within parks during the Spring of 2016. Primary responsibilities will be to observe and record park activity as well as contextual conditions, interview park staff and visitors, and enter information into a provided handheld computer tablet.

REQUIREMENTS:
-Must reside within (or within close proximity) one of the above-mentioned cities.

-Must be available to participate in 1-hour webinar trainings, 3-day in-person training, and data collection for the dates listed below:
–Webinar training #1 (all cities): February 9, 2016 at 12pm ET OR February 11, 2016 at 6pm ET
–Webinar training #2
—Training Session #1 Cities: February 24, 2016 at 12pm ET OR February 25, 2016 at 6pm ET
—Training Session #2 Cities: March 22, 2016 at 12pm ET OR March 24, 2016 at 6pm ET
–All expense-paid training session in Los Angeles, CA
—Training Session #1 Cities: March 17 — 19, 2016
—Training Session #2 Cities: April 14 — 16, 2016

-Must have access to wireless Internet (e.g. at home, coffee shop).

-Must be extremely punctual and highly attentive to details.

-Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate the data collection schedule.

-Must provide own reliable transportation to park locations.

-Must enjoy and be physically able to work outdoors, including walking and standing for long periods of time.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
-Team oriented and comfortable working in pairs or in small groups.
-Comfortable engaging with the public as a part of the data collection team.
-Experience collecting field research data and/or SOPARC methodology.
-Experience working as a remote employee.
