General Description:
The Coordinator for Sustainability Integration facilitates connection and cohesion between PLU initiatives and learning experiences that simultaneously address the environmental, social, and economic justice goals associated with sustainability. The Coordinator serves as a partner to faculty, students, and staff by developing and sharing resources and collaborative opportunities that support the inclusion of sustainability learning, habits, and experiences across the curriculum and co-curriculum. The Coordinator also serves as a liaison between the University Diversity Committee and University Sustainability Committee and provides direct support for the achievement of PLU strategic priorities. Reports to Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Justice, and Sustainability.

Hiring Range:
$17.84 – $20.04 per hour, DOE + excellent benefits

Work Schedule:
FT; Mon – Fri, 8:00am – 5:00pm. Some nights and weekends required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Engage campus community and university partners in opportunities to increase learning, alignment, and broad impact of sustainability initiatives.
  • Develop, collect, and share educational resources that support faculty in utilizing various campus spaces and structures as course-based learning contexts.
  • Identify other opportunities for all dimensions of sustainability to be integrated in curricular and co-curricular learning and experiences by all members of the campus community.
  • Manage allocation of funds associated with proposal based funding process.
  • In collaboration with the Sustainability Committee, monitor and report progress on university-wide sustainability commitments using data from multiple sources and other measurement tools.
  • Serve as the lead for staffing, supervision, and maintenance of the PLU Community Garden.
  • Serve as a coalition member along with the Women’s Center, Diversity Center, Scandinavian Cultural Center, Center for Media Studies, The Wang Center, Wild Hope Center for Vocation, and Center for Community Engagement and Service.
  • Ensure alignment with PLU’s strategic goals and mission and the continued integration of diversity, justice, and sustainability into the living, learning, and working life of the university.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of the dimensions and dynamics of sustainability, including effective practices for engaging the interaction between environmental, economic, and social justice.
  • Investment in and engagement with diversity; ability to work effectively with all community members associated with the university.
  • Strength in and history of collaboration, consultation, and cultivation of relationships.
  • Ability to engage student learning in multiple contexts, including through student employment and advising of student organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including responsiveness to audience.
  • Skill and experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Finalist candidates must complete background check satisfactorily.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree with an emphasis in social justice education, sustainability or related field.
  • Familiarity with community garden models, experiential learning pedagogy, and approaches to student engagement. Direct experience in social justice and sustainability education.
  • Experience supervising student staff and/or advising student organizations.
  • Experience with data collection and reporting and other sustainability measurement standards and emerging metrics and accountability practices.
  • Familiarity with environmental justice, operational, and facilities based aspects of sustainability.
