The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a bright, energetic, self-motivated individual to serve as the special use, agricultural and grazing leasing specialist for state trust lands managed by the Department of Natural Resources in western Washington.

The incumbent will work independently with a wide variety of lessees and stakeholders, including private industry, small businesses, local, state and federal governments, and private individuals. Trust land is leased for agriculture and grazing, utility facilities, educational facilities, residential, and a wide variety of other purposes. The incumbent will work directly with lessees to develop short and long term leases that generate revenue for various public trust beneficiaries, including educational institutions and county public services.

Though based out of Olympia, the incumbent will coordinate their work closely with region management and staff in DNR’s four western Washington regions. Individual will also be a frequent point of contact with external stakeholders interested in state lands leasing activities, including the general public, public agencies, tribes, special interest groups and neighbors.

This position is also responsible for providing guidance to region lease managers related to special use leases, and temporary land use licenses. Additionally, the leasing manager provides asset planning and management support by providing recommendations on future management, acquisition, and disposition of west side trust lands; supporting rights-of-way and easement acquisitions/sales; resolving trespass and other public abuse issues; and seeking opportunities to increase revenue by transitioning trust lands to higher and better uses.
