The Department of Fish and Wildlife is recruiting to fill one (1) full time, permanent, Intergovernmental Salmon Manager (WMS3) position in the Fish Program.  The duty station is the Natural Resource Building, Olympia, WA.

This position reports to the Assistant Director for the Fish Program.  Working with the Director’s Office and the Assistant Director, this position develops fishery plans in stakeholder processes, negotiates fishery agreements with tribal governments, and represents the agency in legislative and international, national, and multi-state fishery forums.  The Fish Program is one of three natural resource programs within the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department).  The Fish Program implements the agency legislative mandate to preserve, protect, perpetuate, and manage the food fish, game fish, and shellfish in state waters and offshore waters and seeks to maintain the economic well-being and stability of the fishing industry in the state.

The objective of the Intergovernmental Salmon Manager for Fisheries Policy is to advance the achievement of the Department’s mandate by completing improved annual and long-term fishery management plans, enhancing the transparency of fishery planning processes and improving communication with the Washington legislature.  The fishery plans may be developed in processes with highly polarized stakeholders, in complex international or multi-state forums, or in negotiations with tribal governments.  The fishing industry (recreational and commercial) in the state has more than $2.5 billion of annual economic activity and supports more than 28,000 jobs.  The Fish Program works with the 24 treaty tribes to co-manage the salmon, steelhead, and shellfish.
