Lobby Day with Carbon WA!

The inside scoop from Olympia

In case you missed it, there was recently a hearing on HB 1646 (we mislabeled it 1464 last week). The bill is sponsored by Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon with the support of the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy (learn more about the plan here). Our take is that there is a lot to like in this plan, especially the inclusion of a well designed carbon price. But, we also think the plan could be stronger (you can read our testimony on the plan right here). The biggest question is that it’s more about what the sponsors of the plan will do with it after this session because it looks unlikely to pass this time around.

Even though no specific legislation is moving on carbon pricing, a carbon price in general is still coming up in talks in both chambers. Right now though, it still looks like doing something about carbon this year is heavy on talk and light on action. It’s going to take a real push to turn the climate talk into climate action this year.

April 20th ACT-NOW Lobby Day!

Please join us on Thursday, April 20th for a carbon tax lobby day in honor of the upcoming Earth Day. This is organized in conjunction with the ACT NOW (advocates for a carbon tax NOW). ACT NOW is a growing coalition of volunteers and organizations that want to see a carbon tax pass this legislative session. We need you with us urging legislators to take action NOW on climate change.
