Olympic Hiking Co. Hiking Tour Guide & Environmental Education Lead
Seasonal: May 15, 2017 – October 1, 2017 * Flexible for start/end dates *
The Position: We are looking for two motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our team and help us lead guided hiking tours throughout Olympic National Park this summer! If you have a strong passion for exploring the outdoors and sharing that passion with others in a group environment, we are confident this position will be an excellent opportunity.
What to Expect: This summer we are expanding our operations to offer daily hiking tours throughout the top destinations in Olympic National Park. Thus, we are looking to add two guides to lead hiking tours to the following destinations: Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc Falls, Lake Crescent, Elwha River Valley, Hoh Rain Forest, and Pacific Coast. We also want our new team members to help us develop new, insightful environmental education content for Olympic National Park and each of the destinations we explore.
The Details:
• 30-40 hours per week
• $15 per hour base pay plus gratuities
• Lead guided trips for half-day tours (6-hour shift) and full-day tours (10-hour shift)
• All tour related activities will originate in Port Angeles, WA
• Able to work from home to develop environmental content for our tour destinations Responsibilities:
• Facilitate a fun, interactive group environment during guided trip and group hiking activity
• Deliver engaging presentation about insightful facts and adventures in Olympic National Park
• Coordinate tour logistics: check-in, timely execution of tour itinerary, and guest requests
Minimum Requirements:
• Attained or currently pursuing Bachelor’s Degree or post graduate degree, preferably in environmental science related field
• Must be at least 21 years of age or older
• First Aid/CPR Certification prior to start date, Wilderness FA or FR preferred
• Able to work flexible schedule, including weekends
• Clean driving record, comfortable driving a 12/15 passenger van
An Ideal Candidate’s Background:
• Strong knowledge of Pacific NW history, geography, and environmental science
• Previous experience in environmental or outdoor education related positions
• Detail-oriented and successful in fast-paced, interactive environment
• Confident in public speaking, quick decision making, and group facilitation
