Friends Of Moran State Park Summer Internship

We typically recruit 4 seasonal positions. Internship is a minimum of 28 hours per week.

Unpaid.

Housing provided.

Start Date Mid June-Labor Day

Summer Interns are expected to help with various aspects of the Summit Learning Center such as helping with special events, general environmental education programs and public programs, creating curriculum for programs, answering requests for information from the public, assisting customers in the Nature Store, (which helps fund our internship program), helping with many other facets of science displays and day to day operations.

This is a chance to gain first hand experience working within a non-profit organization, structured to provide educational outreach, raise funds and coordinate volunteer efforts for a state park on Orcas Island.

Qualifications: Completion of at least two years of college coursework in the environmental or life sciences or comparable experience. Teaching experience and/or curriculum development is preferred. Interns must be confident in leading a group and initiating activities, working independently and team teaching. The most important assets are a strong work ethic, natural history background, enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility, a desire to learn and the ability to work well with others and with children.

Interns must have a driver’s license and means of transportation to and from the learning center. Interns will be required to complete state volunteer paperwork and background check.

This is an unpaid temporary position.

Housing in the park bunkhouse will be provided at no cost as a benefit of this internship. Rooms are private and locking. The bunkhouse is a rustic, historic building with twelve rooms.

Supervision: Summer Interns work under the guidance of the Board Education Chair, however, the entire Board is available to interns for special interest sessions, guidance and assistance.
