Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Clerical position for the Hatfield Marine Science Center at Oregon State University (OSU). This position is located in Newport, Oregon.

Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center serves the people of Oregon, the nation and the worldwide through research, education and extension that promotes the wise use of the ocean and its resources. Oregon Sea Grant administrates the outreach and education programs and manages the Visitor Center located at HMSC. The Visitor Center encourages adults and children to enjoy marine science through a variety of exhibits and displays. These interactive exhibits and aquaria showcase marine research through recognition of patterns that shape our complex world. Research conducted by HMSC scientists reflects the search for knowledge used to understand, manage, and sustain marine resources. The Visitor Center is the outreach opportunity to showcase this research with over 150,000 visitors annually.

Position Duties -Staff the greeter and interpretive positions with the assistance of the volunteer corp at all times.

-Interpret the exhibits and aquaria, assist visitors at the touch tanks, answer questions, ensure that exhibits are operating correctly.

-Provide customer service to public and assist individuals with inquiries.

-Lead presentation/tours for the public

-Assist staff and volunteers during live animal feedings

-Assist with daily operations, turning on and off exhibits, opening and closing procedures, exhibit cleaning, stocking reference materials and brochures.

Additional Required Qualifications A sufficient knowledge of spoken and written English to obtain, provide, or exchange information.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
