Instructors: Ava Arvest, Raskal Turbeville & Jason Scott
Ava is a Citizen-Mycologist business owner whose primary interest is in ecological restoration and self sufficiency. Living in Olympia since 2008, she’s been studying and cultivating fungi since 2010. With a background in education, art, and music she now gets the most from volunteering with groups like the Olympia Mycelial Network, Media Island International, and the Olympia Food Coop. Through the OMN and her business, MycoUprrhizal, she aims to focus her work on education, remediation and earth repair.
Raskal is a Permaculture designer with a passion for soil science and mushroom cultivation. He has been cultivating mushrooms on a small scale for the past 4 years and has worked with a number of different farms and communities to establish mushroom cultivation projects for food, medicine, and remediation. Since 2014, Raskal has been teaching and facilitating workshops with the Olympia Mycelial Network in an effort to educate the community about the beauty and resilience of our fungal allies.
Jason is an amateur Mycologist, Ethnobotanist and Spagyricist who has studied traditional Hermetic Alchemy, from history and philosophy to practice for the past 5 years. He has an intrinsic interest in the fungal Queendom and all of its aspects: from cultivation to mycoremediation, to historical and cultural relationships. Jason is the curator of alchemycology.com and his introductory piece on the subject is featured in the new book by Peter McCoy, Radical Mycology: A Treatise On Seeing and Working With Fungi. He also runs Feral Fungi LLC out of Southern Oregon where he offers a number of services from freshly grown mushrooms, classes, spagyrics and herbal/fungal consultations.
