The primary function of this position is to evaluate the performance of operating utility-scale wind farms in North America. This work is used to help owners improve wind farm performance or in support of a wind farm acquisition or refinancing. The work primarily involves analysis of energy production, performance, and availability. However, the role may also involve turbine condition monitoring, turbine reliability, and operating cost analysis.

 

Tasks may include:

Analyzing turbine supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system data and other operating wind farm data

Summarizing turbine performance, production, and availability metrics for use in energy assessments

Identifying turbine performance issues, estimating energy losses, and performing statistical analyses

Analyzing operations and maintenance (O&M) cost, availability, reliability, and capacity factor trends by wind farms and across the industry

Evaluating wind turbine performance upgrades and changes

Developing new and improving existing models, analysis techniques, and tools

Reviewing the analysis of others and providing constructive feedback

Writing technical reports and communicating results to clients

Managing multiple concurrent jobs and tasks

Ensuring the successful completion of assigned tasks per the agreed upon scope, budget, schedule, and quality

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, statistics, or science; or 6 years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy industry.

At least 3 years of wind energy industry experience required

Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely

Ability to write technical reports

Ability to contribute positively to a team environment

Effective email and phone communication skills both internal and external to the company

Strong overall computer skills and ability to learn multiple software tools, such as SQL, VBA, and MATLAB

Experience processing and manipulating large data sets and multiple data sources

Proficiency with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)

Aptitude for statistical analysis of data

Ability to understand the mechanics of a wind turbine

Critical thinking and problems solving skills

Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time domestically and 5% internationally to conferences, client meetings, wind farm sites, and internal meetings

Preferred skills (not required):

Master’s degree in engineering, math, statistics, or science is a plus

Preferred wind industry experience includes: evaluating wind turbine power performance, availability, and wind farm operations

Experience in renewables O&M cost analysis or asset management

Experience with turbine condition monitoring, evaluating wind turbine faults, and assessing reliability

Wind farm due diligence

Experience with the performance or operations of utility-scale solar sites is a plus

Proficiency with programming languages such as MATLAB, VBA, and SQL is preferred

Project management experience
