The Water Quality Program is looking to fill a Municipal Stormwater Permit Planner (Environmental Planner 3) position, located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.

The Municipal Stormwater Permit Planner develops municipal stormwater management permits, and provides policy and planning guidance. This requires a comprehensive programmatic approach to managing the environmental impacts of urban stormwater runoff.

We are looking for applicants who are organized and have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a service focus, and the ability to lead and work well with others in a team environment.

Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree or above with major emphasis in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, landscape architecture, geography, land use or environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field AND two years of professional experience in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, and/or program development.

OR

One year of experience as an Environmental Planner 2, provided a degree as described above has been obtained.

NOTE: Two years of professional experience in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, and/or program development, will substitute for the Master’s degree provide a Bachelor’s degree in a field listed above or a natural science has been achieved. 

 
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

Two or more years of regulatory experience and demonstrated abilities to:

• Read and understand scientific/technical literature, interpret data, and interact with scientists.
• Communicate well in writing and in speech (especially when communicating regulatory concepts to a lay audience)
• Lead others (e.g. team members) toward the achievement of a project goal.
