The Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a WCC Project Coordinator (Natural Resource Specialist 5) in our Northwest Regional Office (NWRO) in Bellevue, WA.

We are looking for applicants who work well in a team environment, have experience with environmental restoration techniques, are able to speak to large and diverse groups and who have a natural leadership ability.

Ecology’s mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington’s environment, and promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations. Our goals are to prevent pollution, clean up pollution, and support sustainable communities and natural resources.

The mission of the Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) Program is to support community conservation efforts for our shorelands, wetlands, and floodplains.

Some of the key work activities of the WCC Project Coordinator position are:

  • Plan, schedule and prioritize projects for WWC crews, as well as the WCC Program.
  • Coordinates and review projects with governmental, professional and non-profit agencies.
  • Works with sponsor to ensure safe, high quality and efficient project implementation.
  • Monitors project sites to ensure compliance with state, county and federal regulations.
  • Completes reports to ensure program and sponsor goals are being met.
  • Responsible for all supervisory activities of the field staff, including performance and development, adherence to program policy, safety and work standards, completing evaluations and providing problem intervention.
  • Ensures corpsmembers’ development and training goals are met.
  • As a member of the WCC management team, assists in the development and tracking of section and sponsors’ budgets.
  • Sets priorities and policies for the WCC program.
  • Writes and reviews contracts and work agreements.
  • Evaluates staff needs in relationship to legislative and special grant requirements.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations for trainings, public relations and sponsor recruitment.


Please Note: This is a project position that is funded until September 30, 2019.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in an environmental, physical, or natural science, engineering, planning, business administration, education, or closely allied field.
 
AND
 
Four years of professional experience in environmental analysis, control, planning, or community outreach which includes one year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 3, Environmental Planner 2, Hydrogeologist 2, Environmental Engineer 2, Environmental Education/Outreach Specialist 3 equivalent or higher.
 
Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year, for year, for education.
 
A graduate degree in one of the above fields will substitute for two years of experience except for the specifically identified experience.
 
Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively convey ideas and information orally and in writing.
  • Ability to respond to difficult or sensitive interpersonal situations in a manner that prevents/minimizes conflict and maintains good working relationships among internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of local government planning and operational processes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs
  • Experience in both the technical and hands-on aspects of environmental restoration projects implemented by wcc crews.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and issues at the same time.
  • Ability to appreciate and value individual needs and diversity.
  • Possess strong collaboration and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups of people.
  • Possess sound i judgment and strong decision-making skills.


Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Not be registered, or required to register, with the National Sex Offender Public Registry.
  • Successfully pass a criminal history background check.
