If you answered yes to these questions, the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Public Transportation Division has an amazing opportunity for you!

We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our performance engineering (data and evaluation) team. You will have the choice of working in of our Seattle office, in beautiful and historic Pioneer Square, or our headquarters building in downtown Olympia, bordering the scenic South Capital neighborhood.

Your work in this position will be fast-paced, rewarding, and fun. While no two days will be the same, here are some of the main areas of focus:

Primary data tasks

  • Ensure the accurate gathering and reporting of Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) data, with an eye towards improvement of collection methods.
  • Develop methodologies for analyzing CTR data and utilizing the results to inform policy and implementation of the statewide CTR program.
  • Steward the creation and maintenance of transportation-related GIS datasets (e.g., park and ride locations and utilization, bus stop inventory, special needs access).

Primary evaluation tasks

  • Apply engineering and analysis tools to measure, analyze, and report performance of people-focused multimodal transportation system and program performance.
  • Perform enterprise reporting and analysis (e.g., Grey Notebook, Results Washington, corridor plans).
  • Research, develop, and test analysis and evaluation methodologies and systems when emerging possibilities appear.

Primary administrative tasks

  • Collaborate with a wide variety of people and organizations throughout the state on such topics as CTR, transportation demand management (TDM), sustainability, transportation equity, public transportation performance, and much more.
  • Provide presentations and guidance to agency executives, federal, local, private, and non-profit organization, and the public.
  • Manage, coach, and develop staff, and engage the division’s cross-functional teams to develop capabilities, improve efficiency, and enhance capacity to support the agency.

An ideal candidate for this position will have:

Data and Evaluation:

  • A strong working knowledge of development, management, and use of data, data systems, evaluation methods, and analysis principles.
  • Ability to ensure that data, analysis, and research are organized, documented, and communicated in a way that they can be understood, interpreted, and acted upon effectively.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and a knowledge of or interest in coding (VBA, etc.).

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems‘ web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.

Social Security
