Washington State University � Southwest WA Forest Stewardship Educator: Thurston, Lewis, Pacific, Cowlitz, Mason, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, and Wahkiakum Counties with a focus on the Chehalis River Basin Lowlands.  

This is a full-time, 12-month, temporary Administrative Professional position, within WSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Unit (ANR) in the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). The position is headquartered at the WSU Lewis County Extension Office in Chehalis, Washington but serving surrounding counties that are a part of the Chehalis River Basin. Required:  An earned Bachelor’s degree in forestry or relevant natural resources program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience, or, an Associate of Science degree in forest technology or relevant natural resources program discipline and four (4) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Related program experience includes academic or volunteer acquired skills, knowledge, and training in education, program development, agricultural and natural resources education, or related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications: An earned Master�s degree in Forest Resource Management, Forest Ecology, Forest Economics, Natural Resources Science, or other closely related field; two or more years of related experience and/or training in forest health, forest entomology, fire science and ecology, and/or silviculture; ability to conduct informal and formal needs assessments; ability to conduct site visits with landowners and to write a Forest Stewardship Plan; working knowledge of forest management and the natural resource issues of the Chehalis River Basin; a strong understanding of the needs and issues facing family forest landowners, and the ability to develop programs that empower people and build capacity within those communities; experience and ability to deliver long-term educational programs and short-term projects using a variety of methodologies and software; public relations/media experience; demonstrated competency using various electronic communication methods and equipment.
