Keeping Washington Clean and EvergreenThe Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is the central provider of strategic and tactical support for the use of Information Technology (IT) within Ecology. The mission of ITSO is to create and support useful technology services that adapt for the future and support Ecology’s mission.
The purpose of this position is to support and operate Ecology’s database, reporting and web platforms used by all Ecology staff. The position uses a blend of Data Management, information technology System Administration, and customer support skills to keep the platforms operating properly.

The Infrastructure and Operations (INO) section is focused on the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Ecology’s agency-wide technology platforms that all applications and services operate on. This section provides services to all staff in the areas of desktop technical support, Help Desk, wired and wireless networking, Regional Information Technology Services (RITS) for field site technology support, servers, storage, managed print services, and unified communications support and services. This position provides technical support and systems administration for Ecology’s database, reporting and web platforms
Provide technical and organizational support for Ecology’s database and reporting platforms.- Creates and designs process to deliver database technology services.
- Implements new database and reporting functionality.
- Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots of all of Ecology’s centralized database servers and related software.
- Monitors database server performance to ensure applications access and throughput.
- Proposes new database services and service delivery methods.
- Guides the integration of database services with other systems as appropriate.
Outcome: Ecology’s database and reporting services are clearly understood and valued by all of the environmental business units.

Consults and advises agency business stakeholders and executive management on database, web and reporting operations and services.- Analyzes current web and database service delivery metrics.
- Conducts research and understands environmental program area database, web and reporting technology needs.
- Determines and identifies potential new technology opportunities.
- Confers with and explains current and future technology opportunities with program area executives.
Outcome: Ecology environmental programs consume current technology services rather than continue to seek other custom or single function technologies.
Performs Data Management technical functions.- Reviews data management technical structures
- Conducts research and understands emerging data management technologies
- Determines and identifies new opportunities for data management reporting technologies
- Identify, evaluate, optimize, metadata attributes for collaboration platforms
Outcome: Ecology environmental programs can easily gather, report on, and make better data driven environmental decisions.

Required Qualifications:
An Associate’s degree or higher in Computer Science; Information Technology OR completion of a two year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related program
AND
Two years recent professional experience in maintenance of medium to large scale systems in one or more of the following IT disciplines: consultation, systems development, systems analysis, database management, technical support troubleshooting, project management, server management.
OR
Four years recent professional experience in maintenance of medium to large scale systems in one or more of the following IT disciplines: consultation, systems development, systems analysis, database management, technical support troubleshooting, project management, server management.
Desired Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree with focus on computer science, or project management, or database administration.
At least two of the four years of experience should be within the last 4 years.
Education and knowledge of environmental sciences and supporting science based business areas.
Professional level experience consulting, designing, programming, maintenance and/or supporting work for moderate or large size organization.
Experience supervising, leading, mentoring IT professionals in team and individual capacity. - Supplemental Information
