SALARY RANGE:

Sophomore and under: $2,088 per month
Junior: $2,262 per month
Senior: $2,448 per month
Graduate student: up to $2,963 per month
*DNR provides housing in some locations or a $500/month (maximum of three months) housing stipend if free housing is not available.

LOCATION:                         

A designated work center within South Puget Sound Region (North Bend, Enumclaw, Eatonville, Tumwater, Shelton or Belfair), determined based on proximity of successful candidate’s residence.

POSITION PROFILE:

This position will work with DNR foresters, engineers, cruisers, wildlife biologist and recreation staff develop to develop skills and knowledge as it relates to management of State Trust Lands in the Timber Sales and Public Use programs in the DNR South Puget Sound Region.

 Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in Green River or Grays Harbor College Natural Resource Program and and will be returning to school in a following quarter/semester.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Beginning knowledge of theory, policy, principles and practices of the forestry profession as applied to the Pacific Northwest.
  • A basic knowledge of forest mensuration, forest biology and silviculture.
  • Basic knowledge of timber sale layout including the boundary/road location and logging systems.
  • Basic written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • ArcGIS skills
  • Experience using GPS
  • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest understory plant identification
  • Experience with stream typing

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
  • The incumbent in this position is required to travel within the South Puget Sound Region.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.  Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
