40 hours/week, generally Monday through Friday, 9am – 5:30pm in February as well as June-August, Tuesday – Saturday during the primary build season March-May, and some evenings.

The Lead Garden Builder serves with the Victory Garden Project (VGP) Team to coordinate and implement GRuB’s backyard garden building program. During the winter, the Lead Garden Builder supports the Community Food Solutions Manager with gardener communication and orientation. During the spring, the Lead Garden Builder leads teams of volunteers to construct 50+ free backyard gardens with limited-income families throughout Thurston County, with an emphasis on recruiting military veterans as volunteers. This position regularly communicates and coordinates with gardeners and volunteers, contributes to program documentation throughout the season, and provides office and organizational support as needed.
- Routinely refer to Member Service Agreement requirements
- Cultivate professional and respectful relationships with gardeners and volunteers
- Safely drive and operate full size pickup with dump bed
- Construct garden bed boxes and fill with soil in all weather conditions
- Support and lead volunteer builders in garden construction
- Clean and maintain garden building tools
- Schedule and conduct summer garden visits
- Document the build season with regular written reports and photo documentation

- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; experience with larger vehicles preferred
- High School Diploma or GED is REQUIRED by AmeriCorps
