Riparian Restoration Field Crew Lead

Description: Work as a supervisory crew lead for a 4 to 5-person field crew focused on riparian restoration throughout the Palouse region. Crew members work a 40-hour week, Monday through Thursday, 10 hours a day. This is a 12-month full-time, benefits eligible position, with potential to extend depending on funding. Field season may run 6 to 9 months, depending on funding and work load. This position will continue to work in off season performing duties related to field crew activities.

Applications will be reviewed beginning January 16th, and position will remain open until filled. Pay starts at $15.00 an hour.

Job Duties:

  • Direct supervision of field crew members (4 to 5-person) and ensure that work is conducted efficiently, effectively, and in a safe and legal manner
  • Coordination of all project implementation logistics and budgets with project managers
  • Scheduling field crew time on project sites
  • Independently manages and tracks field crew time, equipment, travel,
  • Hiring field crew members, including applications review, selection, and interviews
    • Lead trainings for field crew members on proper planting techniques, safe tool and equipment operation and maintenance, and noxious/invasive and native plant ID
  • Work on all aspects of riparian restoration including but not limited to preparing, implementing, planting, and maintaining project sites; operating and maintaining hand tools and small engine machinery; harvesting plant materials and installing woody structures in streams
  • Maintain function and operation of all tools and equipment used for field crew activities
  • Knowledge and skills to acquire Washington herbicide applicators license
    • Seeks additional projects for implementation and maintenance, and prepares project budget estimates
  • Must possess a positive work ethic
  • Resolve conflicts among crew members and maintains positive team environment
  • Work in all seasons, despite weather conditions
  • Willingness to participate as part of and lead team members
  • Ability to adapt and think independently in changing conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background check
  • Physically able to work on steep slopes and rough terrain to complete job duties
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 50
  • Physically able to plant for extended periods
  • Strong attention to detail, communication and organization skills

Crew members are supplied with personal protective equipment and field appropriate gear, such as waders and rain gear. Upon hire, crew members must supply their own work boots and come dressed for the job.
