  • The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is currently recruiting for a Park Ranger Supervisor position, located at The Cove Palisades State Park near Culver, Oregon.
  • There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time vacancy.
  • This is a Management Service position that exercises supervisory authority over assigned staff.
  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.


What you will do:
The Park Ranger Supervisor is responsible to provide direct, day-to-day supervision of paid permanent, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteer staff in the protection of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, and in the maintenance, operation and repair of state park structures, facilities, equipment and utility systems as an assistant to the Park Manager.

ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Have a criminal history background check that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment with a driving record that meets OPRD standards.
  • Must wear OPRD supplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty.
  • Must comply with and adhere to applicable federal, state, local, and agency rules, laws, standards and policies.
  • Obtain and maintain one or more of the following after appointment, as applicable or required to perform duties of the position:
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Successfully pass OPRD’s enforcement academy (POST) and be sworn as OPRD Enforcement Officer.
  • Oregon Boaters Card.


Park Ranger Supervisor Minimum Qualifications:
Five years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; resource interpretation; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR park maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping); AND/OR natural resource technician experience (e.g.: forestry, fish & wildlife).
– OR –
A Bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field and 2 years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; resource interpretation; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR park maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping); AND/OR natural resource technician experience (e.g.: forestry, fish & wildlife).
– OR –
An Associate’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field and 3.5 years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; resource interpretation; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR park maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping); AND/OR natural resource technician experience (e.g.: forestry, fish & wildlife).

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience providing supervision and/or coordination to permanent, seasonal, volunteer hosts, and/or temporary employees.
  • Experience prioritizing tasks to be completed, developing work schedules and assigning tasks, giving direction concerning work procedures, and review of employees work for conformance to standards and assessing workers performance.
  • Skill in evaluating the quality and quantity of park maintenance and operations work performed by direct report personnel.
  • Skill in overseeing the safe use of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape and building maintenance.
  • Skill in leading work requiring the performance of plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds keeping tasks.
  • Experience working around marine facilities and a good working knowledge of maintenance standards for docks, anchoring systems, etc..
  • Experience operating and training others in the operation of a computerized reservation system.
  • Ability to evaluate strengths and weakness of staff and assist in developing new skill and abilities.
  • Ability to understand work / life balance.
  • Organized, systematic approach to project management.
  • Budget tracking and adjusting skills.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter.
