Natural Resource Worker 2
(Permanent; Full-time)The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is recruiting to fill one full time, permanent Natural Resource Worker 2 position located in the Wildlife Program, Region 2. The duty station is 1550 Alder St. Ephrata, located in Grant County.The purpose of this position is to assist the Access Managers in keeping access sites clean and safe for public recreational use and maintains regional office grounds.
- Duties
- Expected duties of the incumbent
- Maintain cleanliness of concrete structures using pressure washer, scouring powder and brush.
- Remove garbage in and around access sites, including main access roads through the wildlife areas.
- Repair chain link and barbed wire fencing including installing post, braces and splices using a fence stretcher, fencing pliers, T-post pounder, post-hole digger and other hand tools.
- When necessary removal of graffiti a soda blaster and corrosive chemicals while wearing PPE.
- Assist Access Managers with various projects on access sites using small and large motorized equipment and hand tools. This may include but not limited to boat ramp repair parking lot striping, replacing doors and windows, dirt work, barrier rock placement, gravel/rock placement, concrete and asphalt work.
- Vegetation control, spraying, hand pulling, mowing with ATV mower and utility tractor, weed whacker, pruners and chain saw to knock down or remove vegetation. Snow and ice removal.
- At the Region 2 Office, the expectation to maintain some exterior areas is to water, mow, and trim office lawns, check and maintains (2) sprinkler systems to ensure they are adequately working. Apply herbicide, fertilizer, pull weeds from rockery and behind the grass line, trim low branches and hedges and pick up walnut husks in the fall.
- Qualifications
- Graduation from high school graduation or GED, including 3 months of natural resource related labor experience.
Current Washington State Pesticide Applicator license, or the ability to obtain one is required.
PREFERRED:
Experience with four-wheel drive vehicles and ATVs.
Experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
Experience maintaining vehicles and equipment such as pumps, small engines, and tractors, etc.
Pesticide Applicator’s license (opportunity to obtain this license will be provided).A valid Washington State Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one.

- Working Conditions
The employee is expected to spend the majority of their time working in the field under sometimes difficult conditions. Weather conditions can vary from freezing to over 100 degrees F, and terrain is steep and rocky. Other hazards include poisonous reptiles, insects and plants. Employees must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds over steep, rugged terrain in hot or cold weather to conduct maintenance, weed control and habitat enhancement work.How to Apply:
