GIS Assistant
This position will perform the following work:
Assist project lead in the development and deployment of the Puget Sound Mapping Project and other GIS efforts at the Department of Commerce. The project is integrating collected data on land use planning, permitting, development and other economic data for the Puget Sound region.
This is a paid, temporary, part-time position.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, prefer some advance degree work
Completion of advanced GIS software (ESRI) course or equivalent training or experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated experience with setting default geodatabases and relative paths
- Familiarity with basic geo-processing commands
- Familiarity with geodatabases
- Understanding of file naming restrictions
- Understanding of projections and coordinate systems
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to conduct automated change detection
- Ability to conduct automated editing through Python programming
- Constructing model builders and tools
- Creating GIS / internet interfaces
- Creating topology rules
- Development and use of map packages, layer files and templates
- Development of metadata and technical documentation
- Digitizing raster files
- Editing features through topology
- Editing polygons and attribute tables manually
- Experience creating end user training materials and deploying system help content
- Experience in development of IT procedures
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Online
- Familiarity with File Transfer Protocol
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance test suites
- Knowledge of options for open data distribution
- Knowledge of principles of open data
- Manipulation of data between Excel and GIS attribute tables
- Multiple layer integration through Python programming
- Rectification of PDF or raster files
