Position Summary

WEC seeks a Fossil Fuel Campaign Manager to work in coalition with organizations and communities across the Pacific Northwest to stop the fossil fuel industry from building new infrastructure in our region. This position includes policy analysis, coalition management, budget and fundraising, and strategy development. This is a high-profile position working in coalition with existing robust campaigns such as Stand Up To Oil and Power Past Coal and on newly emerging efforts around fracked gas. This is a full-time position, based in Seattle, WA, reporting to the Climate and Fossil Fuel Program Director.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full time, exempt position with a salary range of $55,000 – $60,000 depending on experience. We also offer a generous benefits package including medical and dental insurance, 401k plan and organizational match of up to 3% of your annual salary, a flexible spending account, paid vacation and sick leave, ten paid holidays per year, an unlimited ORCA transit pass, and if you work for seven consecutive years you are eligible for a two-month paid sabbatical. Responsibilities

This position will work with the Climate and Fossil Fuel Program Director to manage WEC’s work to stop new fossil fuel infrastructure. This includes both work as a member and a leader of the Stand Up To Oil, Power Past Coal, and emerging fracked gas campaigns. Responsibilities include elevating the threat of oil spills in Puget Sound and advancing key strategies to improve safety of existing oil transport. Additionally, this position includes support for fundraising and fund management on behalf of both the organization and coalition.

  • Lead the Stand Up To Oil campaign, which is focused on stopping the oil industry from building new infrastructure
  • Analyze policy related to the threat of fossil fuel infrastructure in the Pacific Northwest
  • Prepare, coordinate and facilitate meetings, including developing agendas and notes
  • Engage in regular and productive communications with coalition members and community members
  • Engage with, and conduct outreach to, partners such as tribal nations, labor, communities of color organizations, and businesses
  • Review and write grant applications as needed and support funder outreach on behalf of coalition and organization
  • Manage funds, including budget, on behalf of coalition and organization
  • Serve as a spokesperson with the media as needed
  • Organize strategy sessions to advance the goals of the campaigns

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental protection with a racial justice frame
  • Proven leadership within a coalition
  • Proven leadership / coordination of a campaign or complex project, including work plan development
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds and interests
  • Ability to travel across Washington as needed (driver’s license required)
  • Strong writing, verbal and analytical skills to ensure consistent and precise transmission of perspectives and ideas verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to perform confidently and comfortably in conflict situations and dynamic environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate between differing opinions and/or approaches
  • Excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and good judgement
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with legal and policy framework in Washington State for permitting development/infrastructure projects
  • Ability to talk to the media on a fast-paced issue
  • Experience, or willingness to learn, budgeting processes
