Laboratory Technician 2

In this important role as a Laboratory Technician 2, you will provide phlebotomy service as the main member of the phlebotomy team to Western State Hospital (WSH) and Child Study Treatment Center (CSTC) patients and perform clinical laboratory testing.

On a regular basis, you will:

  • Verify and approve obtained patients’ testing results and input into HIIS-Cache
  • Operate laboratory equipment, troubleshoot any minor instrument malfunctions, and perform preventive maintenance
  • Report any critical, highly abnormal results to the appropriate personnel and document
  • Perform correlation/parallel testing of new reagents/controls/procedures as needed or directed
  • Perform phlebotomy to WSH/CTSC patients as a member of the main drawing team, process specimen obtained
  • Keep track and restock reagents in a timely manner and perform clerical work/duties as assigned to support the operation of the laboratory
  • File, organize and maintain all records.
  • Inform supervisor with any need of revision, updates or changes to the procedure manuals as current practice must match with the procedure manual
  • Report and consult with supervisor of any noted problems, findings, and corrections that need to be made
  • Complete annual WSH mandatory trainings and TB test/assessment requirements

Who should apply?
Professionals with the following:

An Associate Degree from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program including courses in chemistry and biology
OR
Completion of a course for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program, approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, may be substituted for two year of the required experience.
OR
Equivalent education/experience.

  • A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certificate of American Society of Clinical Pathologists
  • Ability to comprehend complex clinical laboratory procedures

  • Ability to expand skills and knowledge in the laboratory field

This is a part-time job, working 5:45 am to 9:45 am, Monday – Friday in Lakewood.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems‘ web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.

Social Security
