This is a Limited Duration position with an expected duration through March 2021. However this could change passed on project funding and operational needs. This recruitment may be used to fill regular and/or limited duration Planner 3 vacancies in the future.
A Limited Duration position is a position performing work for a specified time period not to exceed three years. Limited Duration positions are exempt from the Pierce County Career Service and employment with Pierce County is ”at-will”. Limited Duration employees are eligible to receive paid leave and health insurance benefits including medical and dental.

We are seeking an innovative and creative thinker to support the regional work of the Floodplains for the Future program as the new Floodplains for the Future Coordinator. This program is a cross-sector and inter-organizational partnership hosted by Pierce County Surface Water Management to recover floodplain functions and to protect the health and safety of communities around them.

- Serving as project manager for the Floodplains for the Future Program;
- Serving as a subject matter expert in integrated floodplain management solutions;
- Developing, prioritizing, and coordinate planning and engagement efforts with federal, state, and local agencies to comprehensively and collaboratively resolve floodplain management issues as it relates to the Floodplains for the Future program;
- Participating in and leading the preparation and presentation of reports and information and present to officials, external entities, and the public regarding the Floodplain for the Future program;
- Developing and running committees necessary to achieve program objectives, including agenda planning, outreach and engagement, speaker coordination, and facilitation; lead/facilitate monthly meetings, and participate in integrated work project committees;
- Effectively listening and understanding, build trust, creating opportunities to find agreement, fostering partnerships, and nurturing an environment of collaboration and co-production.

- Qualifications
- Our next successful team member will have…
- Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field; and three years of related planning work
- OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Positions in specific program areas may require program-related experience, education, and/or training.
- Two or more years of experience in local, county, or state planning is desired.
- A Master’s Degree is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of all required background checks may be required prior to employment.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s license, or the ability to obtain the license within 30 days of employment, or otherwise meet the travel

After approximately six months, employees receive six days of vacation leave.
