The Seattle Department of Transportation is seeking a graduate intern to assist the Policy and Planning Division of SDOT with daily operations and transportation planning efforts including: research, data analysis, GIS data management, outreach and engagement, event coordination, providing support for meetings and other duties as assigned.

 Job Responsibilities:
  • Organize and develop logistics for outreach and engagement activities with diverse groups for the One Center City transportation and public realm planning process.
  • Assist SDOT staff with administrative, research and technical tasks. Develop a comprehensive database of prior SDOT projects and utilize GIS to harmonize existing modal plans.
  • Maintain records of comments and communications for a variety of projects
  • Prepare for and attend meetings to support transportation planning efforts.
  • Assist with a variety of social media.
 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Must be enrolled in an accredited educational program preferably studying for a Masters in Urban Planning, Transportation, Public Administration or related field.

Graduate interns must maintain a satisfactory GPA of 3.0 or higher for the duration of the internship.

Experience:

  • Independent self-starter and ability to work well in a team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work graciously and effectively with the public
  • Solid skills with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and understanding of GIS principles and practices
  • Flexibility to work on fast-paced, evolving projects
  • Understanding of urban planning concept and transportation practices
  • Efficient use of Microsoft office products.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual.
  • Experience in graphic design.
 Additional Information:
Start/End Dates:  Intern will start in late June/early July, 2018 and end mid-September, 2018.

Schedule:  Intern will work 40 hours/week.  Work hours can be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and may work some weekends and/or evenings.

Salary:  Graduates will be paid $20.30/hour.
