The Seattle Housing Authority, a nationally recognized leader in developing and maintaining affordable, innovative housing communities, is accepting applications for a part-time Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Intern to assist with the agency’s sustainability initiatives. Under direct supervision, the intern will assist the Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Team in collecting and organizing datasets, engaging staff and residents, and supporting the administration of programs on energy, water, solid waste and fleet management in a diverse, multicultural, multilingual environment.

Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
E = Essential Functions

1. Performs a wide variety of computer projects using Microsoft Office. E

2. Organizes and maintains a variety of electronic files. E

3. Assist in a variety of special projects, research, and analysis in support of the department. E

4. Assist with administrative and other tasks related to the department goals and projects. E

5. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, work plans, performance measures, and continuous improvement of service delivery to assist in attaining the unit/program/department initiatives and goals, agency core strategies, and mission through a spirit of service, teamwork and respect.  E

6. Attend all required training and safety meetings; use, maintain and replace assigned personal protective equipment; report all injuries and illnesses to supervisor immediately; complete and submit incident/accident reports as required; report hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices to supervisor; and follow all safety and health guidelines, practices, policies and procedures. E

7. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have basic familiarity or interest in organizational environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives, projects, and programs. As well as demonstrable experience working with teams, collecting and analyzing datasets, coordinating trainings for staff and participating in environmental stewardship activities and/or events. Candidates should have experience working in multicultural environments or demonstrated skills to do so effectively. Fluency in a language in addition to English preferred.

EDUCATION:
Must be enrolled in an accredited college education program. While we may consider candidates who are recent graduates, priority will be given to those currently enrolled in an accredited college education program.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

WORK HOURS:
Flexible schedule, hours will be worked between 8AM – 5PM
15-20 hours per week
Duration: 15-20 weeks, extension may be available at end of term if budget allows.

ENVIRONMENT:
•Field sites and office environments .

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
• Seeing to read a variety of materials.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
• Stooping and kneeling to maintain files.

This position is not eligible for the Seattle Housing Authority benefits package.

Sick Leave – Effective January 1, 2018, most temporary positions are eligible to accrue sick leave, typically at an accrual rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked (calculated at .025 for each hour worked).
