Public Outreach/Event Coordinator – Communications – Washington State Ferries

Washington State Ferries (WSF) has an eclectic opportunity for a communications professional with an aptitude for planning public events and media campaigns. You will manage related projects and collaborate community outreach plans and initiatives, as well serve as lead production of newsletters, brochures, electronic presentations, social media content, and much more. To succeed in this role you will have an exceptional aptitude in creative solutions and the strong ability to engage a wide audience.The ferry system is represented by a renowned communications team that supports the largest ferry system in the United States. Serving eight counties within Washington and the Province of British Columbia in Canada the system has 10 routes and 20 terminals that are served by 22 vessels and approximately 1,800 amazing employees.

This position will perform the following work:
- Develop, implement, and lead community outreach plans and initiatives; plan and staff public meetings.
- Serve as coordinator for public events and media campaigns.
- Assist in developing and implementing emergency response protocols.
- Lead project teams to produce and distribute newsletters, brochures, media releases, website updates, social media content, electronic presentations, and other related communication mediums.
- Represent the agency at media interviews and public outreach events.
- Collaborate with different departments to gather accurate information to share in public materials.
- Monitor and respond to public inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned.
An ideal candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or other closely related fields of study.
- Three years of experience in writing, editing, or other communications related experience.
- Exceptional ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
