This recruitment is for seven (7) full-time non-permanent Fish Hatchery Technician positions in the Fish Program, Hatchery Division. The duty station for these positions is the Cedar River Hatchery located at 28700 SE 252nd Place, Ravensdale, WA, 98051.

- Assist with various fish culture duties and perform hatchery related maintenance. Tasks and job conditions include:
Adult fish handling:
Collecting, sorting, spawning, sampling and tagging of adult salmon. These duties require heavy, repetitive lifting of adult transport boots and working within the river, in rearing ponds and under foul weather.
Collecting, fertilizing, disinfecting, weighing, sampling, and incubating salmon eggs.
Data collection and recording:
Collect and record data using electronic spreadsheets and/or paper worksheets. Remove otoliths, insert and read PIT tags and pick and enumerate eggs.
Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8-4:30, some perform 10 days on 4 days off, adjusted by workload. These positions operate under any weather condition, high and low temperatures, within swift river currents, and repeatedly carries 35 – 50 pound loads of salmon, long periods of standing (3 hrs or more) and strenuous raking/cleaning of the lower weir. These positions require a valid driver’s license. Travel as needed to meet work demands. Since these positions will be operating within the Cedar River Watershed, WDFW employees must undergo a one-time Seattle Public Utility background check, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.
These positions are in the bargaining unit represented by the Washington Association of Fish & Wildlife Hatchery Professionals and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the Washington Association of Fish Hatchery Professionals (WAFHP).

- Requires meeting the minimum requirements of a Fish Hatchery Technician: Graduation from high school or GED. Hatchery work experience is desired.
Knowledge and Abilities Desired:
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Excel software.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work out of doors in all weather conditions and perform strenuous physical activities.
- Ability to stand for long (3 hrs +) periods of time.
- Perform mechanical tasks using power and hand tools.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform standby duties and respond to alarms as needed.
- Ability to work alone with limited supervision
