As an Ecosystem Recovery Coordinator, you will work with local communities, including elected officials, tribes, federal and state agencies, watershed groups, non-profits, and the business community to identify and focus resources to most effectively impact salmon and ecosystem recovery actions. Implementation of the Puget Sound Action Agenda and regional Salmon Recovery Plan requires vital local and regional partnerships. You will be responsible for working with local communities and regional bodies to support integration and advance priority actions. You will connect local groups to available regional infrastructure, technical resources, and funding, and will assist in developing sound strategies for salmon and ecosystem recovery. You will foster learning and information sharing to improve effectiveness and efficiency across watersheds, local communities, and the region. You will communicate the needs of local communities to the Partnership and the priorities of the Partnership to local groups.

- Some of what you will enjoy doing will include:Salmon Recovery
- Work with salmon recovery watershed leads and key partners in assigned Puget Sound watersheds to support execution and adaptive management of the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Plan.
- Maintain regular contact with salmon recovery watershed leads and key partners in assigned geographies to identify needs, opportunities, and barriers for advancement of the salmon recovery plan.
- Assist salmon recovery watersheds in identifying and implementing opportunities for adaptive management to recovery strategies
- Support funding mechanisms for salmon recovery efforts in Puget Sound, including the Salmon Recovery Funding Board process, Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration Program, and engagement with related partner programs.
- Support development of and regular updates to Lead Entity project lists and narratives.
- Ensure there is community consensus of habitat project lists.
- Monitor and/or engage in watershed specific efforts that advance salmon recovery (e.g. funding and mitigation programs, land protection efforts, etc.).
Ecosystem Recovery
- Work with Local Integrating Organization(s) (LIO) in assigned Action Area(s) to support execution and adaptive management of LIO Ecosystem Recovery Plan(s).
- Maintain regular contact with the LIO coordinator and key partners in assigned geographies to identify needs, opportunities, and barriers for advancement of ecosystem recovery and local implementation of the Puget Sound Action Agenda.
- Provide regional support to the development of LIO prioritization and decision-making processes.
- Monitor and/or engage in Action Area specific efforts that advance ecosystem recovery and local implementation of the Action Agenda.
Regional Initiatives and General Engagement
- Work as part of the Ecosystem Recovery and Integrated Planning Teams.
- Each Ecosystem Recovery Coordinator is assigned regional topics for which they are team or agency lead. The roles and responsibilities for regional topic leads are further defined in the PDPs of the staff.
- Inform watersheds and local communities about the Puget Sound Partnership, Action Agenda, and salmon recovery requirements for management and reporting, and support watersheds and local communities to deliver established requirements.
- Support regional meetings as requested, including those for the agency’s four Boards and associated subcommittees, specifically Salmon Recovery Council (SRC) executive committee and subcommittees involved in PSAR program decision-making and support
- Manage assigned contracts and sub-agreements with local areas and watersheds, including tracking progress, approving invoices, and negotiating new scopes of work.
- Help connect watershed groups and local communities to technical resources to support salmon and ecosystem recovery.
- Support implementation of the Action Agenda and the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Plan at the local and regional scale.
- Work with salmon recovery watershed leads and key partners in assigned Puget Sound watersheds to support execution and adaptive management of the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Plan.
- Qualifications
- REQUIRED:
A Master’s degree in natural resource management or related field and five (5) years of professional experienceORBachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of professional experience.
Experience should include many of the following:
- Knowledge of ecosystem-based environmental management
- Knowledge of community–based ecosystem management
- Knowledge of federal, state, and regional funding programs and cycles
- Knowledge of ecology of salmonids
- Knowledge of Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act
- Managing contracts and monitoring and tracking progress
- Decision-making in a multiple stakeholder process
- Facilitating meetings, forums, and/or group processes
- Managing environmental projects and processes
- Knowledge of adaptive management principles and natural resource planning
- Knowledge of institutions governing and implementing key salmon and ecosystem management programs
- Familiarity with state legislative processes
*Frequent travel to project sites and partner meetings throughout Puget Sound.
*Valid driver’s license and insurance.PREFERRED:
- Working with local jurisdictions and tribes
- Experience in Open Standards or similar natural resource planning and monitoring efforts
- General understanding of voluntary, regulatory, and market-based environmental policy and management
- General understanding of climate science and policy
- Familiarity with water pollution prevention
- Familiarity with shellfish ecology
- Knowledge of the Puget Sound Action Agenda
- Knowledge of the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Plan
- Experience in conflict resolution/mediation between parties over natural resource issues
