EarthCorps brings together passionate and hardworking young adults from the US and countries around the world, for a yearlong environmental leadership training program in Seattle, Washington.  Our participants learn leadership skills by working collaboratively, leading 10,000 community volunteers each year, and executing technical environmental restoration projects including invasive plant removal, native tree plantings, wetland and shoreline restoration, green storm water infrastructure (GSI) projects, maintenance of sites and trail construction.

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager works with Field Staff and various partners to develop environmental restoration projects across the Puget Sound region.  These projects are implemented through coordination with EarthCorps Crew Program participants working in the field.

This position is responsible for project development and coordination between EarthCorps and partner agencies/organizations; contract management; field leadership of crews; supervision of crew leaders and maintaining safety standards and organizational goals of EarthCorps in all endeavors.

The Senior Project Manager is a full-time, exempt position at EarthCorps.

Duties & Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of multi-year, technically complex ecological restoration projects with diverse partners and funding sources. Projects may include invasive plant removal, native revegetation, GSI, erosion control, site stewardship, trail maintenance/construction, and volunteer management.
  • Coordinates and schedules field work projects with the Project Management Team
  • Develops and maintains exceptional relationships with clients
  • Ensures all projects meet quality and quantity expectations along with budget and timeline agreed upon with client. Serves as on-site project manager for EarthCorps.
  • Advocate for new and different best management practices, teaching methods and overall approaches to ecological restoration.
  • Collaborate with clients and development team to present opportunities and participate in securing funds.
  • Manages purchasing of materials and invoicing for assigned field projects

Supervision:

  • Establishes clear goals & objectives with crews including quality/quantity of work, timeline, and safety standards
  • Coach and mentor AmeriCorps and International participants
  • Enforces the standards of behavior as well as policies and procedures of EarthCorps and ensures adherence to program goals and mission
  • Leads by example, working alongside corps members and crew leaders

Logistics:

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of field infrastructure including vehicles, tools, power equipment, camping gear, herbicide equipment and storage facilities in coordination with Logistics Manager and other field staff

Training and Instruction:

  • Fosters and encourages quality work and interaction among corps members
  • Plans and implements training and presentations in such areas as: project orientation, proper use of tools and equipment, workplace safety, restoration ecology, best management practices in restoration techniques, natural resource management, leadership/management skills, and community service

Communication:

  • Prepares oral and written reports including project summaries, equipment use and maintenance logs, performance evaluations, and incident reports
  • Conduct GIS mapping and photo documentation of projects when required
  • Maintains project files, including documentation of work, receipts, and contract compliance
  • Represents EarthCorps at public events

Required Qualifications

  • College degree and/or 5 years of hands-on ecological restoration experience
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects (1-2 years) successfully including those that are complex whether technical, client relations, logistics, and financial.
  • Experience coaching/ mentoring young adults and staff
  • Proven entrepreneurial skills
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in all interactions and communications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and database programs
  • Experience using ArcGIS equipment and programs
  • Ability to travel regionally including car and ferry trips.
  • Ability to work occasional weekend and overnight programs, including camping
  • Ability to work under physically demanding conditions, including cold and wet weather
  • Ability to walk, lift 50 pounds, and operate hand and power tools and other mechanical equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Desired Qualifications

  • Ecological restoration experience in the Pacific Northwest
  • Wilderness First Responder certification
  • Washington State Pesticide Applicator license
  • Experience in securing and managing grants
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Interest in community service and the environment

Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary of $46,000 – $54,000 DOE.
