The Water Resources (WR) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Streamflow Restoration Outreach Specialist (Community Outreach and Environmental Education Specialist 3) position. This position will be located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.
This position will provide outreach and education strategy, direction, and implementation for Streamflow Restoration, a new initiative in the Department of Ecology’s Water Resources Program under the 2018 Streamflow Restoration Act.
This position will work to ensure stakeholders and the public are engaged and informed about the work happening to protect and restore streamflows. This position will also support outreach and education for:
- Pilot projects identified in the law.
- A grant funding program.
- Rule-making.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced community outreach and education professional who can keep the public and our stakeholders informed and engaged in our Streamflow Restoration work. This person will be part of the brand-new Streamflow Restoration Section within the Water Resources Program. The ideal applicant is a strong strategic thinker with detail-oriented writing and editing skills, someone who is comfortable managing competing priorities and working across several teams.

Duties
The Water Resources Program supports sustainable water resources management to meet the present and future water needs of people and the natural environment, in partnership with Washington communities. The Streamflow Restoration Section was recently formed within the program to support the new Streamflow Restoration Act. Some of the key work activities for the Streamflow Restoration Outreach Specialist are:
- Oversee, develop, and implement the outreach and education strategy for the Streamflow Restoration Section.
- This position will also produce helpful and engaging products and materials, including presentations, reports, handouts, videos, web content, blog posts, and more.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree involving a major study in environmental, physical, or natural science, education, communications, or closely related field
AND
Three (3) years of professional experience involving environmental analysis or control, environmental planning, environmental education, community outreach, or communications activities.
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong writing skills.
- Experience editing publications and online content.
- Experience with document design and layout.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and the Adobe Creative Suite products.
- Experience with video recording and editing.
- Second language skills preferred.
