The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) is looking to fill a Communications Specialist 3 (Communication Consultant 3) position. This position will be located in our Headquarters (HQ) office in Lacey, WA.

This position will work with the Toxics Cleanup Program’s Communications Manager to provide clear, accurate, and timely communications to explain the work the Toxics Cleanup Program does, why it matters, and the science behind it. The position will help support communication and outreach needs for the entire program, including leadership, headquarters, and the regional offices.

We are looking for applicants who possess excellent writing and editing skills. The ideal applicant is a strong strategic thinker with detail-oriented writing and editing skills–someone who is comfortable managing competing priorities and working across several teams.

Program Mission:  The mission of the Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) is to protect Washington’s human health and environment by preventing and cleaning up pollution and supporting sustainable communities and natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations. To learn more about the program, visit our website: Toxics Cleanup Resources.

Some of the key work activities for the Communications Specialist 3 position are:

  • Develop content and strategy for the program’s web presence.
  • Train and develop subject-focused web authors throughout the program. Set and maintain website update schedules.
  • Produce and edit written content, graphics, video, and/or audio for blogs, Inside Ecology stories, social media, outreach materials, publications, and internal communications.
  • Collaborate with the program’s communications manager in developing and implementing communications strategies.
  • This position will help the program effectively communicate to the public, stakeholders, and program and agency staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, humanities, public relations, or related field AND three years of writing and editing experience of which two years must include:

  • Experience communicating complex scientific, policy, procedure, or technical information for a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience creating written and visual content for web, blogs, social media, and outreach materials.

A Master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for 2 years of experience. Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient use of SharePoint Site Collection and Partner Web.
  • Experience developing web content strategy, writing/editing, and managing web content.
  • Experience using Adobe creative products like Photoshop, lnDesign, Premiere, Audition, and Acrobat (or similar graphic production software).
  • Experience with video/audio recording and editing.
  • A team player with excellent customer service skills and a calm, helpful manner under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and working with many teams concurrently.
