Job Description:
The Coordinator, Environmental Sustainability oversees the university sustainability efforts. Organizes, maintains, and communicates sustainability stewardship efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Business, or closely related field.
- Two years of experience working outreach and managing projects from concept through implementation with stakeholder engagement.
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
- Experience with web editing and social media platforms.
- Experience operating personal computers and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to local events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Experience leading student or peer groups in sustainability or community-based activities.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience with Red Dot and Microsoft Office Access.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of environmental conservation techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles, methods, and practices of air resources and environmental conservation.
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and regulations governing greenhouse gases and environmental efforts.
- Knowledge and understanding of sustainability principles, issues and the methods with which sustainability can be integrated on campus.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
- Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
- Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.

Essential Job Duties:
- Coordinates the university’s environmental stewardship and sustainability programs to ensure compliance with the state and federal environmental policies. Serves as university liaison to federal, state, and county agencies.
- Develops sustainability project goals and initiatives.
- Maintains the department’s social media websites and web presence and content as a means of marketing and educational outreach.
- Researches grants, rebate applications, and project proposals to obtain funding for sustainability projects. Pursues funding through fundraising and stewardship efforts.
- Formulates a campaign and marketing strategy to support sustainability programs. Develops education and training materials to present to staff, faculty, students, and public audiences.
- Collects and analyzes data on sustainability performance goals and metrics. Prepares and presents reports to stakeholders.
- Oversees the greenhouse gas inventory and reports on the university’s carbon footprint.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises part-time student employees, interns, and volunteers.
- Advises and supports class projects, service learning/civic engagement initiatives, student government, and registered student organizations that wish to participate with sustainability efforts.
- Researches sustainable options and collaborates with internal departments on sustainable purchasing practices.
- Stays current on trends and education in the sustainability field. Participates in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops.
- Collaborates with the Director to make recommendations for policies, procedures, annual budgets, and purchasing decisions.
