A community forum on how we can develop a public electric utility powered by renewable energy.
There will be four knowledgeable speakers who will tell us how we can reduce our carbon emissions from electricity from 58% to less than 10% within the next five years.
Speakers:
- Randal Samstag, environmental engineer and designer of utilities
- Jim Lazar, economist and author of handbooks and articles on electric utilities.
- Stephen Johnson, Executive Director, WA Public Utility Association for more than 20 years.
- Larry Dunbar, Director of the Ellensburg municipal electric utility for decades and now the Manager of the Jefferson County Public Utility District.

Clean Energy Thurston’s volunteers have appeared before the Thurston PUD, the Tumwater City Council, the Olympia City Council, the Lacey City Council and have delivered literature to the Yelm City Council to acquaint them with the possibility of forming a public electric utility powered by hydropower and other clean energy sources. Three cheers for the Olympia Raging Grannies who have accompanied us to Tumwater, Olympia and Lacey to sing their lively updated version of Woody Guthrie’s Roll On, Columbia, Roll On. We are trying to attract decision makers from the PUD and each of our four cities to attend the forum. Mark your calendars and bring your friends!
